Good Plants & Shrubs For Bees

Gorse - (Ulex) An extremely prickly evergreen shrub for that grows in sunny sites on dry sandy soils. It is very hardy and will often be seen growing where no other plants can, seemingly thriving in poor growing conditions including drought. The flowering period for gorse is extensive and the bright yellow flowers are seen through late summer, winter and on into the spring and as such are an important sourse of pollen and nectar for bees and other pollinating insects.

Elm - Large deciduous trees, many modern day cultivars are resistant to dutch elm disease which has brought the species back into populatiry for use in landscaping and forestry. They are an important soure of pollen in early spring.
