Poplar

Poplar - (Populus) is a genus of 25-35 species of deciduous flowering plants in the family Salicaceae. Many Poplars are grown as large ornamental trees, especially those with fastigate (columnar and upright). They prefer wet soil and grow rapidly, and root easily from cuttings. They have an invasive root system so consideration must be taken if planting close to your house or other property. Poplar wood has many uses such as in the manufacture of paper, hardwood timber, matches, snowboards and chopsticks! Its also an important soure of pollen and nectar for bees.


Yew hedge

Yew - (Taxus baccata), A deciduous conifer grown as a large shrub used in hedging or as a medium sized tree slowly growing 10-20m tall, often found in church yards, some specimens in the UK are over 2,000 years old! The leaves are dark green and the fruit is bright red, most parts of the tree are highly toxic.
