Good Plants & Shrubs For Bees


Dandelion - (Taraxacum officinale), the common dandelion is a flowering herbaceous perennial plant of the family Asteraceae. Sadly long considered a weed, especially in manicured lawns and flower beds, but has been used for centuries as a medical herb and in food preparation. The leaves called dandelion greens can be eaten cooked or raw in various forms, such as in soup or salad, they are high in vitamin A, vitamin C and iron, and contain more iron and calcium than spinach.

It has been used in the soft drink, dandelion and burdock, dandelion flowers are also used to make a honey substitute with added lemon called May-honey and dandelion root can be used as a non-caffeinated coffee substitute! The common dandelion is well known for its yellow flower heads that turn into round balls of silver seeds that disperse in the wind. A firm favourite of all bees, leave a few plants in a quiet un-kept area of your garden just for the bees and they will love you for it!

Teucrium Lucidrys

Teucrium - (Lucidrys) also known as Hybrid Germander, is a compact, bushy, rounded, evergreen perennial herb, with glossy, dark green leaves. Bees and butterflies enjoy the deep pink flower spikes during late Summer.
